He hit two milestone home runs last night. According to the AP, he hit number 250,000 in major league history. Good for him.
He also helped the Tigers win a game with his other home run. Notable for being one of the most meaningless in major league history. Sheffield has hit .225 this year and helped suck the enthusiasm out of a once interesting Tiger team. While it's certainly not all his fault, his late season surge of power is like a fresh slap in the face for fans and is remarkable as a contrast for all of those RISPs he has littered about in the first 3/4 of the season.
Finally, his spat of meaningless homers has brought the cost per home run to something under a million per...as long as you don't count the social and emotional costs incurred by Detroit fans during this most disappointing season.
